Google Certified Android TV Box Review Strong S3 Leap.

Google-certified Android TV boxes, such as the Strong S3 Leap made by Skyworth Digital—the same company associated with Mecool—offer comparable quality at half the price.

Strong S3 Leap Android TV Box – one of the best Google Certified TV Boxes on the market today.

The Google-certified Strong S3 Leap Android TV box is equipped with the latest Amlogic S905Y4 chipset, which is approximately 20% less powerful than its predecessor, the S905X4 chipset. However, don’t be misled into thinking it’s inferior; it compensates in other areas to offset the raw CPU performance deficit.

For newcomers to the Android TV apps scene, it’s worth noting that most official TV boxes in recent years come with only 2GB of DDR4 memory and 16GB of fast ROM capacity, which can be expanded up to 128GB using the TFT card slot.

Some UK Android TV websites claim that DDR4 is four times faster than DDR3. In our benchmark testing, we observed speeds of 4200MB/s. It’s also important to note that DDR4 typically has higher latency compared to DDR3, which is why many TV box manufacturers continue to install DDR4 in newer models.

You might be wondering which memory type to choose. In my experience, DDR4 tends to feel faster in real-world usage, even if it’s just 2GB compared to 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

If you can find the Mecool KM7, a comparable model, for around 50 dollars, it’s an excellent deal. It boasts all the features you’d expect, including UHD compatibility for Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, and other subscription services. It also supports sideloading and comes with the official Android TV launcher.

However, be cautious: sideloading doesn’t always function correctly, and any apps you install can only be accessed under the ALL APPS section.

Oddly, this TV box has only one USB port, but it allows for a USB dongle that can support up to four additional devices during our tests.

Another notable aspect is the box’s commitment to security with regular updates, a feature that is quite rare and often surprising to users, including us. While it’s not a concern for this particular box, it highlights the need for more manufacturers to provide updates, which are typically only seen on Certified Google Boxes.

Should you buy one, absolutely!
