TANIX TX66 ROCKCHIP RK3566 TV BOX REVIEW.

Welcome to the highly anticipated review of the Tanix TX66 TV Box, featuring the Rockchip RK3566 at an affordable price point.

Our website has often shown a preference for Tanix TV Boxes, while also sharing our less favourable opinion of Rockchip CPUs.

In our testing of two identical boxes bought from AliExpress.

As they could not be found available in Europe at the time of this review.

We began to think it was a mistake as we ran into significant issues with the TF card reader, which we will discuss later.

The Tanix TX66 features the RK3566 chipset, and as there are not many boxes equipped with this chipset.

There are consequently very few YouTube or online.

Tanix TX 66 Performance.

The CPU operates at 1.8GHz, yielding a Geekbench score of approximately 700 for single-core and 1850 for multicore.

While the single-core performance is impressive, the multicore performance is somewhat underwhelming, performing about 15% lower than, for instance, a S905x4.

The standout feature of these TV Box specifications is the Mali-G52.

This GPU boasts approximately four times the graphical prowess of the standard Mali-G32, making gaming experiences truly vibrant.

At £25, it’s an exceptional deal for gaming enthusiasts and just online streaming.

The AnTuTu benchmark, based on version 10, recorded an impressive score of 116,000.

The 4GB DDR3 memory consistently scored, 4000MB/s, which holds up well against the latest 2GB DDR4 official Android TV Boxes from brands such as Ugoos and Mecool.

Regarding its onboard SSD, which appears to max out at 32GB, it boasts a read speed of 155MB/s and write speeds of around 70MB/s.

Which is impressively fast given the unbelievable price point.

It’s clear that a TV box isn’t valuable if its memory can’t be expanded.

During my tests over several days, it failed to read any Micro SD card formatted with default FAT32, which is the default for most boxes on the market.

Each attempt resulted in a prompt to eject the storage device from the system.

Out of frustration and ready to return it to the seller, I accidentally inserted a USB drive formatted with NTFS, and to my surprise, the device recognized it.

I then used a full-size adapter to format a Micro SD card with NTFS, and the device finally acknowledged the expansion.

I proceeded to format it and integrate a 64GB card as system storage.

This was a new experience for me, and it certainly paves the way for future Linux installations on the box.

If you buy this device and wish to increase its system storage, you will need to format any SD Card to NTFS instead of FAT32.

It also allows external USB system expansion.

Tanix TX66 Wi-Fi Performance.

The Wi-Fi performance on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands was excellent, as was the Ethernet connection when using an Asus Wi-Fi 6E router.

The TX 66 box performed remarkably well, especially given its low cost, and it supported all video formats, including Atmos, even though the specifications did not list the codec—similarly to some Ugoos boxes.

This Rockchip version boasts a unique feature in the menu for video output, which I found to be excellent.

Tanix TX66 review conclusion and result.

Positive aspects include an excellent streaming box at a good price point, rapid RAM, SSD, and impressive single-core performance.

Gaming is highly enjoyable, even for someone who considers themselves not up-to-date with current trends.

On the downside, the memory expansion concept is impractical, and the multicore speed is somewhat sluggish (though it’s questionable when this will be necessary).

For a TV Box priced at $25 or $30, it’s a no-brainer choice from AliExpress.

While you can find better options, they may cost up to four times more for comparable performance and build quality.

Direct link to AliEpress for this deal, which is not sponsored by them or anyone else for that matter.
